A resurfaced slip shows the awkward moment Melania Trump was asked about her marriage and gave a sharp response.

In 2018, Melania did a sit down interview with ABC News during a trip to Africa – her first foreign solo trip as first lady. The reporter brought up Trump’s alleged infidelity, prying Melania about the impact those rumors had on their relationship. Melania maintained her signature poise and responded carefully.

“It is not a concern and focus of mine,” she said with a straight face. “I am a mother and a first lady, I have much more important things to think about and to do.”

The interviewer then asked, “Do you love your husband?” to which Melania said simply, “yes, we are fine.”

After the interview aired, White House Reporter Kate Bennett responded to the first lady’s comments, saying, “she remains very unemotional. She doesn’t lose her cool. She is maintaining her privacy.”

Bennett continued, addressing the media storm that surrounded Trump’s alleged affair and his alleged payment to adult film star, Stormy Daniels, to prevent her from discussing an alleged sexual encounter with Trump.

Bennett commended Melania for her restraint, calling her “expressionless,” during many of her public appearances alongside her husband.

Melania is known for keeping a low-profile and staying out of the spotlight where possible. Throughout both his first and second term, she has blended into the background of his administration, not embracing the role of the first lady in the same way as her predecessors.

During an ABC News interview from 1999, Melania was asked if she could ever see herself in the role of First Lady, as Trump began to show political interests.

“Yes, I would be very traditional like Jackie Kennedy and Betty Ford,” she said. “I will support him, I will do a lot of social obligations,” adding that she would even end her modelling career for her husband.

During the same interviewer, the reporter pressed then 26-year-old Melania on her relationship with the businessman 24 years her senior, asking if the two were really in love. She said that they were.

“They don’t know me,” she said of the naysayers, describing Donald Trump as “very kind” and “very charming.”
