President Trump Denounces Violence, Urges Unity and Progress Following Florida State University Shooting

In the aftermath of a tragic mass shooting at Florida State University (FSU), former President Donald Trump delivered a somber and resolute address to the nation, condemning the violence and calling for national unity, compassion, and meaningful progress.

The incident, which occurred on April 17 near the FSU student union, resulted in the deaths of two students and injuries to six others. Authorities identified the suspect as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, who allegedly used a firearm once owned by his mother, a former sheriff’s deputy, to carry out the midday attack. Swift intervention by campus security and local law enforcement prevented further casualties. Ikner was taken into custody with non-life-threatening injuries

Speaking from the White House, President Trump acknowledged the pain and sorrow felt across the country. “What we witnessed in Tallahassee was an act of senseless evil,” he said. “Yet in our darkest moments, the enduring spirit of the American people shines through. We stand in solidarity with the victims, their families, and the entire Florida State University community.”

The former president called for a renewed sense of national unity and empathy. “This is a time for Americans to come together — not as partisans, but as one nation. We must cultivate a culture that values life, fosters human connection, and provides support to those in silent distress.”

He emphasized the urgent need to address mental health challenges, particularly among young people. “We can no longer turn a blind eye. It’s time for real, accessible mental health care for our youth. Our response must be rooted not in blame, but in compassion and courage.”

While President Trump did not advocate for stricter gun control measures, he reaffirmed his support for Second Amendment rights. “The firearm is not the enemy,” he stated. “What we must confront are the broken hearts, fractured minds, and failing systems that contribute to these tragedies
