The Kansas City Chiefs face the Carolina Panthers fresh after their first loss of the season, and CBS Sports’ Will Brunson is fearing for the NFC cellar-dwellers.
It is a hard assignment anytime you face the Kansas City Chiefs, but for the Carolina Panthers, their Week 12 matchup is fraught with all kinds of danger.
The Chiefs’ undefeated start to the year ended at the hands of their closest AFC rivals for the No. 1 seed, which was a good wake-up call for Andy Reid’s team.
Patrick Mahomes stated that it would be a good thing, as the Chiefs can now hone in on the small details that might have gotten overlooked due to the team’s constant winning.
And for CBS Sports’ Will Brunson, he’s fearing for the Panthers on Sunday, who might be on the end of a good old-fashioned curb-stomping as the Chiefs look for retribution for last week’s loss.
“This is a nightmare spot for the Carolina Panthers,” Brunson writes. “The worst possible opponent is coming to town in the form of the Kansas City Chiefs. And not just the regular Chiefs either. It’s the Chiefs after a matchup against the Bills in which they suffered their first loss of the year and Patrick Mahomes couldn’t keep pace with Josh Allen and their primary AFC rival. Now the Chiefs have to keep their foot on the gas to try and get the No. 1 seed and they should be able to do just that against a Carolina defense that offers little resistance to a competent offense. … K.C. is gonna get to 30 here out of spite.”
With the Chiefs now going toe-to-toe with the Bills for the AFC and the lowly Panthers only having pride to play for, it’s a perfect storm for Kansas City to make an example of a Carolina team that doesn’t have the weapons to defend itself.
The Chiefs present a daunting prospect at the best of times, but now that they have suffered their first loss, they are looking to bounce back with authority.
We might have to have a mercy rule on Sunday. The Chiefs will want blood and could be hellbent on getting it.
