“The supreme court (will be using lower case letters for a while based on a complete lack of respect!) of the United States accidentally and unwittingly gave me, as President of the United States, far more powers and strength than I had prior to their ridiculous, dumb, and very internationally divisive ruling,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, desperately trying to spin the Supreme Court’s ruling into some kind of victory.

Last week, the court ruled 6-3 that the tariffs Trump implemented under an emergency powers law were illegal. Under the Constitution, only Congress has the power to tax and as has been well-demonstrated time and again, tariffs are a tax on American consumers. For Trump, the ruling was the greatest setback of his second term and undoes the centerpiece policy of his entire disastrous economic agenda.

The ruling was particularly embarrassing for Trump because Republicans control the court and Justices Neil Gorsch and Amy Coney Barrett — who were both appointed by him personally — voted against him. He was expecting loyalty and discovered that even corrupt right-wing justices have their limits.

“For one thing, I can use Licenses to do absolutely ‘terrible’ things to foreign countries, especially those countries that have been RIPPING US OFF for many decades, but incomprehensibly, according to the ruling, can’t charge them a License fee – BUT ALL LICENSES CHARGE FEES, why can’t the United States do so?” Trump rambled on in his post.

“You do a license to get a fee! The opinion doesn’t explain that, but I know the answer! The court has also approved all other Tariffs, of which there are many, and they can all be used in a much more powerful and obnoxious way, with legal certainty, than the Tariffs as initially used,” he continued. “Our incompetent supreme court did a great job for the wrong people, and for that they should be ashamed of themselves (but not the Great Three!).”

“The next thing you know they will rule in favor of China and others, who are making an absolute fortune on Birthright Citizenship, by saying the 14th Amendment was NOT written to take care of the ‘babies of slaves,’ which it was as proven by the EXACT TIMING of its construction, filing, and ratification, which perfectly coincided with the END OF THE CIVIL WAR,” Trump wrote.

“How much better can you do than that? But this supreme court will find a way to come to the wrong conclusion, one that again will make China, and various other Nations, happy and rich,” he added. “Let our supreme court keep making decisions that are so bad and deleterious to the future of our Nation – I have a job to do. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

The repeal of birthright citizenship is one of the most coveted political totems of the white nationalists that helped foist Trump into power. They want to begin stripping citizenship from people who were born and who have spent their entire lives in America, because they see nonwhite people as a demographic threat to their power.

Trump’s argument about the “babies of slaves” is totally false. If that were indeed the sole intention behind the 14th Amendment, it would have been written explicitly as such. Instead, it reads: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” There’s no way to interpret that wording in good faith that supports Trump’s assertions.

Trump signed an executive order, illegally claiming that at least one parent of a child must be a permanent resident or a citizen for that child to receive citizenship at birth. Numerous courts have already found it to be “blatantly unconstitutional,” and the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the matter in roughly a month. Hopefully, they hand him another crushing defeat.
